STAGING INFORMATION
 
 
   
Event:
VIETNAMESE SPRING PARADE

Date:
Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Staging:
Market Street between St. John and Santa Clara Streets.

Time:
Please arrive at the staging area at 9:00 a.m. Inspection for floats will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Car Parking:
Park your car in the Market and San Pedro garage across the street. Entry to the garage is on San Pedro street. There will be NO PARKING in the staging parking lot, streets or surrounding streets. 

Floats:
Assemble on Market street between Santa Clara and Julian Streets in the southbound lane, curbside.

Marching Bands:
Unload participants and equipment on Market street between St. John and St. James streets.  All buses must proceed to bus parking on San Fernando between First and Second streets.

Marchers:
Assemble on Market street between St. John and Santa Clara.  Unit will enter and exit the parking lot from St. John street.  Once participants are unloaded, vehicles will need to exit immediately via Market street exit.  All buses must proceed to bus parking area on San Fernando between First and Second streets.  Parade participants must refrain from loud playing music in this parking lot due to church services close by.

Check-in:
Please check in at the information desk to locate your designated assembly area.

Parade Route:
Starts at Santa Clara and Market streets at 11:00 a.m.  The parade proceeds south on Market street passing Plaza de Cesar Chavez and will end at the intersection of San Carlos and Market streets.

Marching:
All units are expected to keep up with the pacer.  The parade must move at a steady pace for the convenience of all participating units. 

QUIET ZONE:
Between Post and San Fernando Streets. Please stop your music or sounds.

Arm bands:
All number armbands shall be worn forward on the right arm biceps.

Viewing Stage:
Market Street at the corner of Park Ave, next to the Tech Museum.

De-Staging:
Bands will turn left onto San Carlos street, break rank and turn left on First street, continuing on the side walks to San Fernando de-staging area.  Floats will turn right at San Carlos street and proceed to Almaden blvd.  Walkers with floats must go to the sidewalk on San Carlos street.  Marchers will break rank or merge to a smaller unit at San Carlos street and proceed to sidewalk, turn left on San Carlos street and continue to First street, remaining on sidewalks.  Marchers can proceed back to their vehicles or the staging area.

VIETNAMESE SPRING PARADE
GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES

ENTRY SELECTION: All parade entries are subject to approval by the VSF committee.  All entries are selected on their performance quality, cultural value, significance and appearance. ENTRIES WHO DO NOT RECEIVE ENTRY CONFIRMATION ISSUED BY VSF WILL  NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.

MARCHING MUSICAL UNITS: School bands, drum corps, independent bands. Marching musical units are requested to perform the 1.0 mile parade route. 

DECORATED FLOATS: Professional and self-built floats are accepted. Floats must be a fully decorated trailer that is self propelled or pulled by a vehicle. Tractor or trucks will not be allowed. ALL FLOATS MUST CARRY A CURRENT DATED 2A10BC FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.

COSTUME UNITS: Marchers in uniforms or national costumes. All members must remain in a uniform formation at all times. All costumes must be in presentable condition.

EQUESTRIAN: Equestrian teams, horse drawn carriages. Unit must have control of their horse at all times.  Any animal deemed unsafe in the parade will be removed. Unit must take care of their horses.

DECORATED VEHICLES: Vehicles considered for entry must be antique or uniquely decorated to fit the parade's theme.  Commercial vehicles are not allowed. The blowing of horns in the parade is prohibited.  ALL DECORATED VEHICLES MUST HAVE CURRENT DATED 2A10BC FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.

NO THROWING FAVORS: This is extremely dangerous as spectators will run out into the street to retrieve favors.

NO PERSONS OR ARTICLES HANGING OVER THE SIDES OF FLOATS OR VEHICLES: This could result in personal injuries.  If a unit is in violation of this code, it will be removed from the parade immediately.

NO FIREWORKS:  Any type of fireworks, sparklers, etc. is prohibited by the City of San Jose.

NO BALLOONS:  Balloons are not allowed on or released from any entry due to the flight path of the nearby San Jose airport.

ENTRY NUMBER: You will receive your line up number when you sign in at the staging.

START TIME: All units must be in their position and ready to move at 11:00 a.m.  All units are encouraged to bring their rain gear.

FORWARD MOTION: All entries are required to maintain a continual forward motion during the parade.  Parade officials may change pace or stop forward motion to maintain suitable space between entries.  

QUIET ZONE: All entries are required to stop all musical instruments when passing by the church on Market street between Post and San Fernando streets.

IDENTIFICATION SIGNS: Identification banners are encouraged for entries in the parade. The LISTING OF TELEPHONE NUMBERS OR ADDRESSES ON A BANNER WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If your unit is not able to participate in the parade after being accepted, please contact the parade staff at least 2 weeks in advance. Last minute cancellation will disqualify your participation in the future.

ENTRY APPLICATION FORM: The entry application form must be completed and submitted with the understanding of the general rules and guidelines. The parade staff reserves the right to reject any entry at any time and all decisions are final.
